Tinder Announces #AllTypesAllSwipes: Introducing More Genders

Posted November 16, 2016

Social media matchmaking site, Tinder would like to give its users “more choices” and “more voices” by letting users “express their true authentic self.”

Users in the U.S., U.K. and Canada can now add more information about their gender by editing their profile. When selecting “I Am,” users now have the option of selecting more and typing in a word which best reflects their identity and the ability to display it on their profiles.

“Every new person in your life expands your horizons in some way,” stated the social media site in a Nov 15 announcement. “Inclusion and acceptance drive this expansion, and we want Tinder to reflect the world that surrounds us every day.”

Tinder has made this move to avoid “wrongfully removing”  users from Tinder because another user reported you unfairly due to your gender, explained the release. It also appoligzed saying that now everyone is welcome at Tinder.

For those that have been removed, they can send an email to questions@gotinder.com with a link to their Facebook profile. Tinder will review each request and grant access accordingly.

The site explained that this feature was built with the help of their transgender and gender non-conforming users and consultants, including Nick Adams and Alex Schmider from GLAAD’s Transgender Media Program, and filmmaker and trans advocate Andrea James.

The announcement also added that this was just one step in their efforts to make Tinder a more inclusive community.
