BET Founder Bob Johnson Discusses His “Great Chat” with Donald Trump

Posted November 22, 2016

Bob Johnson, the founder of BET, who met with Donald Trump on Sunday at the Trump National Golf Club in Bedminster, New Jersey, said his conversation with President Elect Trump showed positive signs and that Trump is “committed to reaching out to African-Americans.”

“In the course of my conversations with him, we talked about a number of issues implemented by President Trump in his administration that will demonstrate that African Americans have something to gain by establishing a common ground with President-elect Trump and his administration,” Johnson told Erin Burnett on CNN Monday night about his meeting with Donald Trump.

Johnson, who was also on CNBC earlier in the day, reiterated that he was a believer “that as African Americas, we should have, what one congressman who started the Black Caucus said, no permanent friends, no permanent enemies, we only should have permanent interests.”

“Let’s give him a shot, and a benefit of doubt and see if we can find common ground, and I think that’s the best interest of African Americans,” he added.
