SNL’s Ode to the Election

Saturday Night Live has done a great job keeping us entertained through the election, especially when the candidates made it so easy most days.

As the election came to the end, SNL decided to have a somewhat unusual musical performance to begin this week’s show, featuring Kate McKinnon dressed as Hillary Clinton and singing “Hallelujah,” by Leonard Cohen, who died last week.

At the end, McKinnon-as-Clinton stated “I’m not giving up, and neither should you.”

As the guest host, Dave Chappelle, had an opening monologue.

“I didn’t know that Donald Trump was going to win the election. I did suspect it. Seemed like Hillary was doing well in the polls and yet … I know the whites. You guys aren’t as full of surprises as you used to be,” he joked.

He added, “America has done it. We’ve actually elected an internet troll as our president.”

The show also included a comedy skit with Chappelle and Chris Rock set at an election night watch party. In the scene, Chappelle cautions Clinton supporters against celebrating prematurely.

While everyone else is disappointed by the election results, Chappelle and Rock remained unaffected.

“Don’t worry, eight years are gonna fly by,” Chappelle offered. “Get some rest,” added Rock. “You got a big day of moping and writing on Facebook tomorrow.”
