Many were anxiously awaiting Lady Gaga’s Super Bowl halftime performance to see if she would address Donald Trump and politics.

The singer’s performance had promised to be politically charged in the wake of protests against Donald Trump in a press conference earlier in the week.

“The only statements that I’ll be making during the halftime show are the ones that I’ve been consistently making throughout my career,” Gaga said, in a statement. “I believe in a passion for inclusion. I believe in the spirit of equality, and that the spirit of this country is one of love and compassion and kindness. My performance will uphold those philosophies.”

She began with singing a medley of “God Bless America” and “This Land Is Your Land” with red and blue drones behind her transforming into an image of the American flag. She then said “One national under God, indivisible, with liberty and justice for all” before jumping in to the stadium. Her performance included a combination of songs including “Born This Way” which celebrates individuality. The lyrics highlight a pro-LGBTQ view: “No matter gay, straight, or bi / Lesbian, transgendered life / I’m on the right track baby / I was born to survive.”

While many were beyond thrilled with her performance, others were wondering why she didn’t use this platform to be more vocal on current events and the new president.

She concluded the show by dropping her mic, catching a football and making her grand exit from the stage by jumping off of it.

“She was so happy with her performance,” a source told E! News.” It was everything and more than what she expected.”
