AllofUs Ventures Backs Video Tutorial Platform Start-Up Yodomo

Posted May 30, 2017

Yodomo, a marketplace for lifestyle tutorials, is set to launch later this year to help creative people teaching a range of lifestyle activities to make sleek, professional quality online tutorials and then provide a platform where they can earn income from them.

“As a learner maker myself, I was becoming increasingly frustrated at the quality of online learning experiences. I knew that there was a wealth of great makers on Instagram, but they didn’t seem to be teaching online,” Sophie Rochester, Founder of Yodomo told DIVERGE. “Our research into the area drove us to a number of pain points stopping these makers from teaching online.”

She added: “The e-learning market is set to grow around 7.2% over the next decade, and expected to reach approximately $325 billion by 2025. A third Americans already use online to learn a new skill or craft, while one in three considers themselves a DIYer. We believe there is a lot of potential in this market for those with creative skills to earn income, so we’re developing a platform for creative upskillers with high aesthetic values, alongside the creation of a product that will help to shoot quality tutorials more easily.”

At launch, Yodomo will initially focus on the crafts and designer maker movement and cookery. Once up and running, Yodomo plans to expand into other lifestyle areas including wellbeing, gardening, dance and music.

Yodomo’s production tools will initially include simple storyboarding and shooting; trim and edit as you go; single touch light and colour adjustment; and the ability to add voiceovers and text overlays.

With the financial and product development input of AllofUs Ventures, Yodomo is now working to refine, shape and build the Yodomo platform and product ahead of its launch scheduled for later this year. It has also entered a partnership with Goldsmiths Digital Studios giving Yodomo access to expertise from the university’s computer science and creative technology alumni.

The next step is Yodomo’s first promo video, which launches on Thursday 25 May at yodomo.co.
