AllofUs Uses VR to Bring the Amazon Rainforest to the UK for Greenpeace

Posted March 29, 2017

Greenpeace UK, in collaboration with design consultancy, AllofUs has launched a new virtual reality app to give supporters the chance to experience amazing places such as the Amazon first-hand and then take action to defend them.

Conceived and created by design consultancy, AllofUs, the app launched this month and enables audiences to see for themselves some of the areas where Greenpeace is campaigning.

The app gives viewers into a range of 360-degree immersive films, allowing people to visit some of Earth’s most amazing and precious environments, and enables them to help take steps to protect them via petitions and donations.

“The naturally immersive experience of VR is a perfect fit for Greenpeace, as their success is based on getting people to empathise with environmental concerns,” Orlando Mathias, Co-Founder and ECD at AllofUs told DIVERGE. “By using the app for awareness raising on the street and at events and festivals Greenpeace can help build a direct connection with their supporters and ultimately make them feel part of the team.”

To get the full app experience, app users need a virtual reality headset and headphones. Greenpeace has also provided a solution for that. The organization has created a rainforest-themed VR cardboard headset from recycled materials, which accompanies the content and which can be accessed for a donation of £6.

The app also allows viewers to choose to watch 360 highlights via their phone and is available for both Apple iOS and Android phone users. The work takes viewers into a range of 360-degree immersive films, allowing people to visit some of Earth’s most amazing and precious environments, and enables them to help take steps to protect them via petitions and donations.
