DIVERGE talked to Artist Craig Craymo about his passion for writing from the heart.

Why did you write this song?

I wrote Be Myself to possibly help give confidence to kids or others who might be currently struggling with their sexuality or with being bullied just for being different.

What did winning the award mean to you?

Winning this award means the world to me that my talent and passion have touched others in some positive way, that somehow I have made a difference in someone’s life. I have been creating music for many years and to be recognized for my talent by my peers in the music industry is a great honor.

How does it feel that UNESCO is using your song as an anthem?

World peace has been a passion of mine since I was a little kid and the UNESCO project New Songs For Peace dot org embraced my song and message and have helped spread the message of peace to many people around the globe. Teachers at schools all over the world in China, Australia, the U.K., Canada and the USA have downloaded the song, taught it to their students who then performed it at their schools. The song was also used as a learning aid to teach English to children in Pang Liu Village in China. Some of that footage is at the beginning of the music video for One Love One World (We Are One).

Can you tell me about the song Moment?

I wrote Moment after my first cousin took his own life, with the hope that maybe it could help prevent others from doing the same. I like to give messages of inspiration in my music. I like to give people hope for a better tomorrow. The world is not a bad place. It will get better. We all have difficult moments in our lives and it’s how we stay strong during those moments that defines us.

Are all your songs about serious issues?

Not all of my songs are about serious issues, mostly upbeat and positive, pop sing-along songs about life and love are what I write about most.

How important is diversity in this country?

Diversity is very important in this country. We are all part of the human race. No one or no one race is more important than any other. We are all equal. We should be anyway, it’s a work in progress.
