Valerie Jarrett, former President Barack Obama’s senior adviser, has joined the Chicago-based Ariel Investments Board as a director, according to an announcement.
“With her wealth of experience from an extraordinary public and private sector career, we are simply delighted to have Valerie join our company board,” John Rogers, Jr., Ariel’s founder and CEO, said in a statement.
Jarrett oversaw Obama administration’s Office of Public Engagement and Intergovernmental Affairs and chaired the White House Council on Women and Girls. Previous positions also include positions as CEO of Habitat Co. in Chicago, Chairman of the Chicago Transit Board, and Chairman of the Chicago Stock Exchange.
This marks the second Obama administration addition to the Ariel Investments‘ board, as former Education Department Secretary Arne Duncan also serves as a director.
