On November 19, 37 electoral votes could change the future of America, according to a new public service announcement by Unite for America, self-defined as a movement of concerned citizens and communities, formed in the wake of the 2016 U.S. Presidential Crisis.
The organization targeted GOP electors with $500K ad buy in final anti-Trump push in all 50 states
Celebrities including Martin Sheen, Debra Messing, James Cromwell, Noah Wyle, J. Smith Cameron, and others who lent their time and voice to ask the electoral to unite to “save America” from President-elect Donald Trump.
The ad cites Alexander Hamilton’s writing for the Federalist Papers, where he wrote, “The process of election affords a moral certainty, that the office of President will never fall to the lot of any man who is not in an eminent degree endowed with the requisite qualifications.”
The Hamilton Electors, allies and partners of Unite for America, a group founded by several members of the Electoral College dedicated to support Hamilton’s vision that members of the Electoral College should be free “to vote their conscience for the good of America” are also pushing the effort.
The groups have organized national rallies and vigils through the weekend to bring awareness and get the attention of each state’s electors.
There is a call for supporters to join them in a nationwide candlelight vigil taking place at every State Capitol at 6:00pm and then at State Capitol’s from 9:00 am to noon when the Electoral College will meet in every state, “to show your support for them voting their conscience.”
Organizers are asking everyone to spread the word and share images and thoughts on social media with the hashtag #VigilsforAmerica and #UniteforAmerica.
To kickoff the movement, a rally was held on December 17 on the steps of the Washington Memorial, which featured speeches from speakers including Texas Republican elector Christopher Suprun and Standing Rock activist Jordan Marie Daniel, member of the Kul Wicasa Oyate/Lower Brul Sioux Tribe.
“Flood the streets with purple this week as a sign of unity and courage for Republican electors to abstain or vote for an alternative president,” Unite For America lead organizer Jon Gedney said in a statement. “We hope these peaceful vigils remind them that the decision they make on December 19th will forever define us as a nation.”
The Hamilton Electors have also released their own PSA, which explains the Electoral College voting process and asks electors to reconsider their votes.
