Animal Right’s organization, PETA is launching a brand-new billboard campaign that encourages people to eat at Taco Bell locations all across the U.S
The billboards feature a chicken’s face next to the words “Let’s All ‘Live Más.’ Would It Kill You to Get a Bean Burrito?”—playing on the company’s famous tagline in order to promote the fast-food chain’s certified vegan food offering.
“It’s easier than ever to find delicious, cruelty-free vegan food, including at fast-food staples like Taco Bell,” said PETA Executive Vice President Tracy Reiman, in a statement. “Unlike meaty dishes, vegan meals are free of saturated animal fat and cholesterol.”
“Going vegan also spares more than 100 animals every year daily suffering and a terrifying death in today’s industrialized meat, egg, and dairy industries,” she added.
Additionally, the non-profit has developed a guide for eating vegan at Taco Bell. To support the campaign, PETA’s famous “Lettuce Ladies” will also be handing out free bean burritos outside various Taco Bell locations.
DIVERGE talked to Ben Williamson, Senior International Media Director, PETA to find out more:
Who is the team behind this campaign?
PETA’s new ad was designed by our in-house Marketing Dept.
Why is this campaign significant?
PETA’s new ad reminds people that chickens are not ingredients for tacos and burritos. They’re intelligent individuals with distinct personalities, just like us. Eating meat is completely unnecessary and PETA urges anyone who still thinks a chicken is nothing more than a menu option to learn how fascinating they are, and to reject cruelty to animals by choosing vegan meals and adopting a vegan lifestyle.
Is this one of the first times PETA is promoting a restaurant?
PETA promotes fast food chains and restaurants that offer vegan options, but this is the first time ever that we’ve promoted a fast food chain to such an extent through billboard advertising. In the past, PETA promoted Burger King’s Veggie Burgers by hosting giveaways at schools and campuses across the country. And at PETA, we have tips on eating vegan at almost every fast-food restaurant chain.
How are the “lettuce ladies” in this campaign significant?
PETA’s sexy ‘chicks’ are eager to show diners that eating vegan is as simple as ordering a fresco-style bean burrito or requesting simple changes to many other popular items on Taco Bell’s menu.
Additional thoughts?
Chickens are intelligent, sensitive animals, who feel pain just like our dogs and cats, yet in the United States, over 1 million chickens every hour are violently slaughtered for their flesh.
Whenever you see chicken on the menu, remember the living animal who fought desperately to escape the slaughter line and think about the violent, painful death they experienced so someone could order their body parts in a restaurant. No creature wants to be killed, and since eating meat is completely unnecessary, no creature ever should be.
