Messaging Service WhatsApp Introduces Video Calling

Posted November 16, 2016

WhatsApp, a messaging service that serves over a billion people all over the world will now be competing with Facebook Messenger, Skype, FaceTime and other video calling services.

On November 13, the WhatsApp blog announced that they are taking the next step in their efforts to connect people by offering the ability for video calling for the times “when voice and text just aren’t enough.”

“There’s no substitute for watching your grandchild take her first steps, or seeing your daughter’s face while she’s studying abroad,” the announcement stated. “And we want to make these features available to everyone, not just those who can afford the most expensive new phones or live in countries with the best cellular networks.”

This addition will also open a new source of marketing for advertisers , who currently use messaging services, by adding video as an additional source of product marketing. The service will roll out in the next few weeks.
