Automattic’s WordPress.com Names MDC’s Assembly as AOR.

Posted February 1, 2017

Assembly, MDC’s full-service media agency, has been named the media agency of record for WordPress.com, the publishing platform and flagship brand within web development corporation Automattic, Inc, according to a statement.

The WordPress.com network welcomes more than 409 million people viewing more than 15.5 billion pages each month. Additionally, users publish more than 41 million new posts and 60.5 million comments each month.

“We selected Assembly because of its data-first approach to performance marketing and an ability to centrally model, measure, and optimize all pieces of the media plan,” said Chris Taylor, Chief Marketing Officer at Automattic, in a statement. “We’re eager to get new creative into market to start the year off strong.”

Assembly will be responsible for handling media strategy, planning and buying, data analytics, and modeling.

The account was awarded to Assembly after a formal review with undisclosed agencies. New creative work is set to launch in the first quarter of 2017.

“This new account is especially exciting for us, as it expands Assembly’s expertise into the technology category,” added Martin Cass, CEO of MDC Media Partners and Assembly. “Winning the WordPress.com account is a great way to start 2017.”

“This win continues Assembly’s winning streak, as the agency won over a billion dollars worth of new business in 2016 alone,” a spokesperson for the agency told DIVERGE.
