Planet Propaganda’s Holiday Project: BlitzenSchtick

Posted December 23, 2016

To celebrate the holidays Madison Wisconsin-based ad agency Planet Propaganda reached out to Underground Meats, owners of the butcher shop down the street, to create BlitzenSchticks limited edition merrily seasoned polish pork sticks. The best part? They are 100% Reindeer Free.

The agency, which created the branding, package design, POS at Underground Butcher, and a website where BlitzenSchticks are available for purchase at $10.00 a package, worked with Underground Meats to develop the “Schticks,” a unique blend of locally sourced pork and spices.

Proceeds from every package of the holiday BlitzenSchticks help benefit Luke House community meal program, which brings together people of all races, religions, and social spheres to share a table, some time, and a meal.

Clients also received packages as their holiday gift and Planet made a donation to the Luke House in their name.

DIVERGE spoke the the Planet Propaganda Team to find out more:

Where did the idea come from?

A copywriter came up with the idea to make branded brats this summer (we are in Wisconsin). The tube meat idea was tabled but we dusted it off this Fall when a creative team morphed it into holiday Schticks for our clients holiday gift and to sell to benefit a charity in our neighborhood.

Who is the team behind it?

We tend to not name “names.” We had a copywriter, designer, creative director, studio manager, digital and PR pro, etc. on the team.  It was a group effort, like most projects.

How long did it take to initiate?

Once the agency aligned on the idea it was a rather rushed deal.  Let’s just say the Slack Channel wasn’t created until November 16. But, the tube meat idea was cooking well before that.

What feedback did you receive?

We’ve been sold out in store, but Underground Butcher has been able to restock.  We didn’t expect sales to be so quick.  We are thrilled as our goal is to raise funds for the Luke House.  The more sales the more donations.  BlitzenSchticks are for sale online too!

Why is the social good aspect so important?

The agency wanted to do something to benefit a charity in our neighborhood.  We do other nonprofit work but the team felt it was a natural to give back during the holidays, connect a project to our client gift, and benefit our neighbors, the guests of the Luke House.
