Last year, social media marketing platform, Spredfast decided to partner with Charity: Water project to help provide clean driving water to those who don’t have access to it.
Spredwater uses digital technology, such as VR experiences as a driver of social impact and change, they built community, trust, and loyalty through innovation, transparency, and storytelling.
DIVERGE talked to the Spredfast team to find out more:
Why did Spredfast decide to take on this initiative?
We’ve admired charity: water’s brand for a long time. It starts with the way they connect their donors to the communities that receive clean water for the first time and extends to how they show the world the incredible impact it has on people. When we came across charity: water, we knew we had found our fit in a partner. Like Spredfast, they believe in the power of building trust, showing value, and connecting. They build trust with their donors by connecting them with their impact on the ground, constantly showing the value that they’ve created through regular updates on social media.
How excited were you when the first well was funded?
We were thrilled to announce the first well’s funding at our Smart Social Summit event last October. charity: water’s social strategist Cubby Graham was a keynote speaker at the event, so we knew that once we had captured the hearts and minds of the audience, that would be perfect timing to unveil the big news. We immediately loved getting to involve the Summit audience in our efforts. When the well was announced, we gave all attendees the chance to vote via social media on the well’s name. They decided on “The Giving Well”, a name we love too.
How can social sharing lead to global change?
In just 10 years, charity: water has brought clean water to more than 6 million people around the world. Social media is the primary vehicle they use to build a passionate community that is committed to this important cause. Social helps them connect with their donors, and share stories of the impact their work has on real people in remote communities around the globe. On our site, you can see that over 351,000 people are talking about clean water on social right now. That’s thousands and thousands of people connecting, engaging, and sharing around this cause, many with an incredibly simple and powerful vision: that one day every person on earth will have access to clean water.
Social media allows us to reach new audiences, tell, and share stories in ways we never have before. Through social media, charity: water has spread awareness for their tremendous cause, inspired potential donors, given the communities they serve faces behind their statistics, and made donating easily accessible. We’ve been proud to be on this mission with them through #Spredwater, on a platform that we so believe provides a powerful vehicle for social impact and global change.
Additional thoughts?
We are proud of our work with charity: water, and hope that by strengthening our partnership, we’ll encourage more brands to commit to ways that they can make an impact too.
Please join our efforts and share with #Spredwater to bring cleaning drinking water to the next 6 million people who have to live without it today.
